From the 1984 season to present, the park has operated as Six Flags Great America. After the 1983 season, Marriott sold the park to Six Flags. It still is the world fastest, tallest and longest racing wooden coaster. American Eagle held the world record for fastest coaster for 7 years, and was the fastest wooden roller coaster for 19 years. This was the first wooden coaster built by Intamin. Marriott added two more coasters within the first few years of the park operation, with one being, American Eagle. Today only two of those coasters are still standing, Demon and Whizzer. In 1976, the hospitality corporation, Marriott, opened Marriott's Great America, a premier theme park with plenty of rides, shows, games, and 3 roller coasters.
